Trading Assets and Liabilities and Derivatives
Trading assets and derivatives increased 23% compared to the
prior year, as a result of normal changes in the trading portfolio
product mix, primarily due to increases in trading loans, CP, and
agency MBS. The increase was partially offset by decreases in
equity securities and CDO/CLO securities. Trading liabilities
and derivatives remained relatively unchanged compared to the
prior year, as an increase in corporate and other debt securities
was offset by a decrease in net derivative liabilities, resulting
from normal business activity. See Note 17, "Derivative
Financial Instruments," to the Consolidated Financial
Statements in this Form 10-K for additional information on
derivatives. For a discussion of market risk associated with our
trading activities, refer to the "Market Risk Management—
Market Risk from Trading Activities" section of this MD&A.
