(10) Segment Information (Continued)
The accounting policies for each of these reporting segments are the same as those described in Note 2, "Summary of Significant Accounting Policies,"
except that segment financial information has been prepared using a management approach which is consistent with how the Company internally disperses
financial information for the purpose of making internal operating decisions. The Company evaluates segment financial performance based on earnings before
income taxes, special items, reorganization items, and gain on sale of investments. As discussed in the notes to the tables below, the Company does not allocate
corporate overhead expenses to its United Express segment. Certain selling and operational costs are allocated to United Express. See Note 2(j), "Summary of
Significant Accounting Policies—United Express" for additional information related to United Express expenses.
The following table presents UAL segment information for the year ended December 31, 2007, the eleven month period ended December 31, 2006, the one
month period ended January 31, 2006 and the year ended December 31, 2005:
