Since 2009, the ASUS Culture Foundation and Public TV have co-organized the
99-second National Film Selection competition. The fifth activity evaluation and
award presentation took place in the first half of 2014, and the sixth took place in
the second half of the year. Each year the theme changes according to current
events.
a. Fifth annual “Under the Roof, My Home” video project
With the theme of “Home,” the call for video entries started on September
18, 2014, and continued until January 25, 2015. A total of 631 entries with
over 2,152 participants set a new record. The short film competition has been
popular for years. Many school departments incorporate the film project as
part of the semester curriculum. The participants of the film recording can
turn unforgettable memories and valuable life experience into touching
stories. The film project includes stories from all over Taiwan. Winning clips
are prepared on DVD and are used in teaching materials for the education of
younger students.
(3) Fifth ASUS Aboriginal Science Education Award
ASUS has organized the Aboriginal Science Education Award since 2009. The
fifth award program started in April 2013, with registration completed in
December. Evaluation and award presentation was completed in the first half of
2014. There were 36 teams from junior high and elementary schools
participating in the competition. There were nine cross-school teams from a total
of 47 schools, with 210 people in all. Elderly and advisors accounted for 87 of
the participants, and students accounted for 123. The activity is popular and
supported by the Aboriginal Association and by Aboriginal TV. It is one of the
science education activities which junior high and elementary school aboriginal
students participate in each year. In the past few years, more than 500 aboriginal
students from 12 tribes have participated. The research course of the science
exhibition includes learning content about traditional culture. Tribal elders
analyze scientific theories to prepare research reports and to produce 3-minute
research films which are uploaded to the cloud platform. This science education
award allows aboriginal students to use modern science methods and theories to
verify ancient traditional techniques, thereby retaining the history and traditional
craft of their own tribe. The outstanding results over the years have become
supplementary teaching material related to science and culture for schools.
