In 2014, the total number of recycled computers donated was 1,381 units and the
total non-profit organizations receiving contributions was 89. These non-profit
organization service groups include volunteer services (foreign), Ministry of
Justice Youth Detention Center, rural schools, programs for the elderly and
programs for persons with mental or physical disabilities. Most centers receiving
donations have substantially enhanced digital capacity after receiving recycled
computers. For example, in a rural after-class counseling center, children did not
have any digital learning devices and could not use the latest digital learning
platforms. The recycled computer program sponsored by the ASUS Culture
Foundation provides students with recycled computers so they can remotely
conference to learn math and Mandarin Chinese online.
Along with donating recycled computers in 2014, ASUS also cooperated with
Taiwan Digital Phoenix Association to understand the software requirements of
centers receiving donations directly or through phone visits, providing the
centers with digital teaching materials and digital teaching curriculum tools to
help upgrade the digital assets and teaching capacity of the centers. The total
number of direct and indirect beneficiaries was approximately 11,960 people.
Facebook sites shared information about the program:

Additionally, Daai HD TV Green Program invited ASUS to produce a
“Recycled Computer” theme in a 50-minute report, to raise public awareness
about the Recycled Computer, Engineering of Hope program. Information about
the program is also available at http://recycling.asus.com.
(2) ADOCAPEC Digital Opportunity Centerprogram
ASUS has participated in the APEC Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC 2.0)
program and cooperated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2009. ASUS
helps local non-profit organizations of ADOC member states and countries work
with Taiwan to establish digital learning centers, and to promote digital learning
in an effort to close the digital gap. ASUS also supports volunteer and education
promotion through equipment donation, so students and residents of all ages in
rural areas have a fair opportunity to learn.
a. ADOC creative photo/short article competition
For the fifth consecutive year, in 2014 ASUS co-hosted the ICT competition
with the ADOC Secretary General. Members of ADOC digital learning
center are encouraged to share learning experiences, technical exchange and
successful stories of digital learning through this platform. For years the
competition has gained popularity and support among members. In 2014,
participants of member states joined the event from more than 10 member
states, including Chile, Peru, Mexico, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam,
Thailand, Malaysia, Independent State of Papua New Guinea, and Russia.
The creative photo competition features information technology. Each photo
includes the ASUS and ADOC logos. About 76 entries were submitted and
12 pieces were selected and awarded through online voting and review by
professional judges, with the winners receiving prizes. The winning pieces
were highlighted in various ADOC publications, such as the ADOC website
and 2015 calendars.
The short article competition featured how technology changes life. A total of
63 articles were submitted, and 32 articles were selected, compiled and edited
