The St. Paul Companies 2001 Annual Report8
Specialty expertise draws profitable business to The St. Paul
The St. Paul is an acknowledged industry leader in specialty commercial insurance. Many of the company’s specialty areas hold
leadership positions within the insurance marketplace. The St. Paul’s specialty commercial operations include Financial and Professional
Services, Public Sector Services, Excess & Surplus Lines, Technology, Marine, Catastrophe Risk, Oil & Gas, National Programs,
Transportation and Discover Re. The St. Paul’s growth and profitability begin with excellence in industry-specific underwriting, claim
handling and risk control and depend upon the support and knowledge of its agents and brokers.
The St. Paul works hard to build and maintain strong agent partnerships. For example, employees from the Technology underwriting
unit spent part of 2001 “on the road,” educating agents and brokers about Internet-related risks. The Public Sector business unit
launched a web-based rating and quoting system to make it easier for agents and brokers to do business with The St. Paul.
The St. Paul’s Technology underwriting unit has
developed a series of products to protect companies
from many Internet-related risks.
