DRIVING TOPLINE GROWTH BY MAXIMIZING
LEADERSHIP POSITION IN THE GLOBAL
VIDEO GAME CATEGORY
Growing Global Market Share
2014 was a very exciting time for our GameStop
video game business. We continued to dominate
the global video game market, expanding our
differentiated leadership position and market share
and continuing to maximize our brick and mortar
stores. Our domination of the next-generation video
game hardware and software cycle continued on
every front compared to the last generation launch.
By the end of fiscal 2014, our PlayStation 4 and
Xbox One unit sales were 145% higher than what
we achieved when launching the PlayStation 3
and Xbox 360 over the same period of time,
leading to positive consolidated same store sales
for the second consecutive year. In our GameStop
International business, we continued finding new
GameStop’s next-generation software
unit sales increased 92% over the
last console launch cycle.
ways to enhance the customer experience with the
video game brands our customers love. We placed a
focus on selling video game, movie and pop culture
collectible products during the year, which helped
increase the sales and gross margin percentage per
customer transaction across our global business.
Overall, the common factors in helping us achieve
these results include the delivery of a superior
customer experience by our knowledgeable and
passionate store associates, our PowerUp Rewards
loyalty program and unique buy-sell-trade model,
and our pre-order sales capabilities.
