CHANGING THE GAME: THE YEAR OF THE CONSOLE 2013 was an eagerly awaited year in which
Microsoft and Sony revealed their respective third and fourth generation video game consoles.
| In anticipation, we carefully planned ahead and elevated our game by leveraging our well-
cultivated partnerships with the two console manufacturers. We secured strong allocation levels
of the new consoles, which allowed us to capture leading market share during the launch. | We
attained this position in the marketplace by utilizing our pre-order sales, highly knowledgeable
store associates, PowerUp Rewards database, dynamic midnight launch events and our unique
trade programs around the world to dominate the largest video game console launch in history.
The reveal of Microsoft’s newest Xbox
was one of the biggest entertainment
stories of the year. More than
700,000 consumers immediately
joined GameStop’s Xbox One First
to Know List to keep up with the latest
news and updates for the headline-
making console. Microsoft reported
that it has sold more than 5 million
units worldwide to date.*
Within weeks of the official Sony
unveiling of the PlayStation 4 in early
2013, 1.5 million consumers joined
GameStop’s PS4 First to Know List to
be the first to receive announcements
and offers related to the new console.
Sony announced early this year that
it has sold more than 7 million units
worldwide to date.*

Thousands of gaming fans celebrated the launch
of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles at
