In Memoriam
In May 2010, we saw the passing of our Board member and friend
Bernard “Bernie” S. Y. Fung. Bernie, who served on our Board of Directors
with distinction, was fi rst elected to the MasterCard Incorporated and
MasterCard International Incorporated Boards of Directors in June 2006,
just after the company’s initial public offering. He served on MasterCard’s
Human Resources and Compensation Committee throughout his tenure
as a MasterCard director.
Bernie played an integral role in MasterCard’s historic transformation
to a publicly traded company, resulting in fundamental changes to the
governance and ownership structure that have provided MasterCard with a
unique competitive advantage. He was instrumental in guiding the strategic
direction of MasterCard, ensuring that the company’s outlook was truly
global and positioning it to capitalize on the many emerging opportunities
in the payments space. Bernie’s passion, warmth, and commitment will truly
be missed by the Board of Directors and the entire MasterCard family. In his
memory, MasterCard made a donation to a memorial fund supporting the
China Literacy Foundation as arranged by the Fung family.
