Leap Wireless International, Inc.
We continue to invest appropriately in our network
to ensure that our customers have a strong voice
and data experience, whether they are on 3G or 4G.
Value-seeking customers can save over $1,000 on their Apple iPhone 5® or Samsung
Galaxy S® III smartphone over two years with Cricket, which gives us a real opportunity
if we can get the total offering right.
Right now, we are focused on having the right
devices, on the right service plans, with a customer
experience that exceeds our customers’ needs. It
is critical for us to expand device financing options
to lower the out-the-door price of higher-quality
devices, without increasing subsidies. If we do it
right, we believe we can differentiate ourselves and
take market share from post-paid carriers.
At the same time, we continue to make smart
investments to improve the customer experience
and keep customers with us longer. Our network
strategy is a good example. By year end, we had
rolled out 4G/LTE service to 21 million potential
customers – or more than a fifth of our company-
owned network footprint. We had launched two
4G-capable smartphones in time for the holidays,
and expect to add more in 2013.
We continue to invest in our network to ensure
that our customers have a strong voice and data
experience, whether they are on 3G or 4G. In
addition, in early 2013 we entered into a nationwide
4G roaming agreement that will provide us the
opportunity to supplement our facilities-based
coverage as we continue to evaluate our options for
offering LTE, either by building our own networks
or partnering with others.
Last year we also continued to thoughtfully manage
our balance sheet and valuable spectrum assets,
including completing our fourth spectrum exchange
transaction in the last two years. These transactions
have increased our average spectrum depth to 23
MHz and raised nearly $120 million. Going forward,
how we use our spectrum will be a continuing focus
as we find the right balance between using our
own networks and entering into arrangements with
other carriers.
