Field,inwhichthecompanyhasa33percentworkinginterest.
FaroeIslands InJanuary2005,thecompanywasawarded
fiveoffshoreexplorationblocksintheFaroeIslands’second
offshorelicensinground.TheblocksareneartheearlierRose-
bank/LochnagardiscoveryintheUnitedKingdom.Thecompany
hasa40percentinterestandwillbetheoperator.
Kazakhstan Thecompany’sfirstcrudeoilfromKarachaganak
FieldwasloadedatRussia’sBlackSeaportofNovorossiyskin
mid-2004.ThisrepresentedthefirstshipmentofKarachaganak
crudeoilthroughtheCaspianPipelineConsortiumexportpipe-
linethatprovidesaccesstoworldmarkets.
Constructioncontinuedduring2004bythecompany’s50
percent-ownedTengizchevroilaffiliateonSourGasInjection
(SGI)/SecondGenerationProject(SGP),whichisexpectedto
increasetotalproductionfromthecurrentcapacityof298,000
barrelsofcrudeoilperdaytobetween430,000and500,000bar-
relsperdaybytheendof2006,withtheexpansiondependent
uponthesuccessoftheSGI.
Libya Inearly2005,thecompanywasawardedonshore
Block177inLibya’sfirstexplorationlicenseroundunderthe
ExplorationandProductionSharingAgreementIVterms.The
companywasalsomadeoperatoroftheblockwith100percent
equity.Theeventsmarkthecompany’sreturntoLibyaaftera
28-yearabsence.
Nigeria AtthedeepwaterAgbamiproject,severalmilestones
wereachievedin2004,includinginitialdevelopmentdrilling
inthethirdquarterandreachingaunitizationagreementwith
otherownersinthearea.Inearly2005,acontractforthe
constructionofafloatingproduction,storageandoffshoreloading
platformwasawarded.Theprojectisbeingunitized,andthe
company’sequitywillbeabout68percent.
Thecompanywasawardeda100percentcontractorinterestin
thedeepwaterNigeriaBlockOPL-247intheeasternpartoftheNiger
Deltainthesecondquarter2004.Block247isadjacenttoBlock222,
whichincludesthecompany’sUsanandUkotdiscoveries.
Inthethirdquarter2004,thecompanyannouncedacrude
oildiscoveryattheUsan5well.Additionally,inearly2005,
hydrocarbonswereencounteredattheUsan6appraisalwell.
ChevronTexacoholdsa30percentinterestinthewells,bothof
whicharelocatedinOPL-222.
Nigeria–SãoToméandPríncipeJointDevelopmentZone
(JDZ) Thecompanywasawardedtherightinearly2004to
conductexplorationactivitiesindeepwaterBlock1intheJDZ,
offshoreSãoToméandPríncipeandNigeria.Inearly2005,the
companysignedaproduction-sharingcontractwiththeJoint
DevelopmentAuthority,underwhichChevronTexacowillbethe
operatorwitha51percentinterestintheblock.
SouthernAfrica Thecompanyannouncedadiscoveryinthe
deepwaterareabetweenAngolaandtheRepublicofCongoatthe
Lianzi-1explorationwellinthethirdquarter2004.Thediscovery,
intheshared14K/A-IMIUnit,islocatedinthesameareaasthe
previousBlock14deepwatercrudeoildiscoveriesatLandana
andTombuainAngola.ChevronTexacoistheoperatorofthe
14K/A-IMIUnitandholdsabouta31percentinterest.
Russia InSeptember2004,thecompanyandOAOGazprom
signedasix-monthmemorandumofunderstandingtojointly
undertakefeasibilitystudiesforthepossibleimplementationof
projectsinRussiaandtheUnitedStates.Thisrepresentsapos-
sibleopportunitytoparticipateinthedevelopmentofthevast
naturalgasandcrudeoilresourcebaseinRussiaandtodevelop
aclosepartnershipwithRussia’slargestnaturalgasproducer.
Thailand Thecompanyannouncedsuccessfulexploration
andappraisaldrillingresultsinmid-2004atBlockG4/43,located
intheGulfofThailand.BlockG4/43isadjacenttothecompany’s
operatedand52percent-ownedBlockB8/32.
TrinidadandTobago Inearly2005,thecompanyannounced
successfulexplorationdrillingresultsattheoffshoreManatee1
explorationwellinBlock6d.ChevronTexacooperatesandholds
a50percentinterestinthiswell.
UnitedKingdom Inthethirdquarter2004,productionof
firstcrudeoiloccurredatthe21percent-ownedAlbaExtreme
SouthPhase2project.AlbaFieldislocatedinBlock16/26,north-
eastofAberdeen.Inthefourthquarter,acrudeoilandnatural
gasdiscoverywasmadeattheoffshore40percent-ownedRose-
bank/Lochnagarwell(213/27-1Z)intheFaroe-ShetlandChannel.
Venezuela InAugust2004,thecompanywasawarded
anexplorationlicenseand100percentinterestforBlock3in
PlataformaDeltana,anoffshoreareaonVenezuela’sAtlantic
continentalshelf.Theexplorationrightsaddedtothecompany’s
existingBlock2licenseinVenezuelaandBlock6dinTrinidad
andTobago,acrosstheborderwithVenezuela.Twoexploration
wellsweresuccessfulduring2004intheoperatedand60percent-
ownedPlataformaDeltanaBlock2.
Thecompanycompletedonshoreconstructionofthe30
percent-ownedHamacaProject’scrudeoilupgradingfacility.
Thisfacilityhasthecapacitytoprocess190,000barrelsperday
ofheavycrudeoilandupgradeinto180,000barrelsperdayof
lighterhigher-valuecrudeoil.UpgradingbeganinOctober2004.
GlobalNaturalGasProjects InQatar,SasolChevron,Chevron-
Texaco’s50-50globaljointventurewithSasolofSouthAfrica,
enteredintoamemorandumofunderstandingwithQatarPetro-
leumtoexpandtheOryxgas-to-liquidsprojectandaletterofintent
toexamineGTLbaseoilsopportunitiesinQatar.QatarPetroleum
andSasolChevronalsoagreedtopursueanopportunitytodevelop
a130,000-barrel-per-dayintegratedgas-to-liquidsproject.
InAustralia,theNorthWestShelfVenturebegancommis-
sioningofafourthLNGtraininSeptember2004.Thisincreased
theventure’sLNGproductioncapacitybyapproximately50per-
centduring2004.ChevronTexacoholdsaone-sixthinterestin
thejointventure.
Thecompanyannouncedinthefourthquarter2004an
agreementwithothershareholdersoftheWestAfricanGasPipe-
lineCo.Ltd.tomoveforwardwiththeconstructionofapipeline
tobeusedforthetransportationofnaturalgasmorethan400
milesfromNigeriatocustomersinGhana,BeninandTogo.
Inearly2005,thecompanyannouncedplanstoconducta
feasibilitystudyonapotentialliquefiednaturalgas(LNG)project
atOlokolainsouthwestNigeria.Futuredecisionstomoveforward
withOlokolaLNGwilldependontheresultsofthefeasibilitystudy.
