CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY
PRODUCT-BASED ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS
MANAGEMENT REPORT
181
A
As part of our quest for carbon-neutral mobility, we at Audi are
also pursuing another highly promising concept for substituting
gasoline and diesel with entirely new, renewable fuels – Audi
e-fuels. This initiative is also based on the principle of taking
CO2from the atmosphere and turning it into carbon-neutral
fuels. For some time now, we have already been researching the
manufacture of synthetic ethanol, or Audi e-ethanol, and syn-
thetic diesel, or Audi e-diesel, in collaboration with innovative
partners. At the start of 2014, we embarked on an additional
research and development collaboration with a high-profile
partner, with the goal of producing biomass-free isooctane
(Audi e-gasoline) and preparing it for use by final consumers.
Thanks to its innovative energy management, the lighting
technology used in our Matrix LED headlights was recognized
by the European Commission as an eco-innovation. As well as
increasing safety and convenience, this lighting technology de-
monstrably improves fuel efficiency. The European Commission
has confirmed this in bench tests (www.automobilwoche.de/

Detailed information on the subject of “Lighting
technology” can be found on pages 159 f.
