Our ability to drive positive clinical behavior through
Consumerology® remains our key differentiator.
Supported by our advanced understanding of human
behavior and our commitment to superior cost
management, our clinical programs continue to deliver
better health and value. In 2009, we made investments
in our infrastructure, systems and products that will
drive our continued success.
Breaking New Ground
We are already gaining traction with evidence-based,
innovative products such as Select Home Delivery,
more than doubling use of the channel with no change
in plan design, no fi nancial penalties and minimal
member disruption. Adding to these benefi ts,
adherence is up to 8 percentage points higher for
members in Home Delivery.
We literally broke ground on the construction of a new
Pharmacy Technology & Innovation Center in St. Louis,
setting a new standard for patient safety and service.
The facility features best-in-class pharmacy automation
and overall effi ciency for the dispensing, packaging and
shipment of up to 110,000 prescriptions per day.

Specialty Pharmacy, we
manage one of the highest
areas of spend for plan
sponsors. Members with
chronic health conditions
can require prohibitively expensive treatment regimens
and complex levels of care. CuraScript’s high-touch,
clinical programs help sustain the maximum quality of
life and keep episodes of acute treatment to a minimum.
The 2009 acquisition of WellPoint’s NextRx subsidiaries
includes a 10-year agreement by which Express Scripts
will provide pharmacy benefi t management services to
members of one of the nations largest health benefi ts
companies. Plan sponsors and members will gain from
state-of-the-art programs and shared best practices from
both organizations. Healthcare administrators will gain
greater insight into drug trends and usage through our
innovative reporting and modeling tools.
Through our long-term strategic relationship with
WellPoint, we will leverage integrated medical and
pharmacy data for a more holistic view of member
health and related behavior. That information, infused
with our fi ndings through Consumerology, will drive
the creation of leading-edge programs for improved
outcomes and reduced costs.
