Express Scripts 2009 Annual Report
1
We serve tens of millions of Americans as a pharmacy benefi t
manager (PBM) for health maintenance organizations, health
insurers, employers, union-sponsored benefi t plans, third-party
administrators, workers’ compensation and government health
programs. We are guided by our core values of integrity, mutual
respect, passion, alignment, collaboration and service. Our focus is
driving out waste while improving health outcomes by coordinating
the distribution of outpatient pharmaceuticals. We offer a
combination of services, including clinical management programs,
retail drug card programs, Home Delivery and formulary
management programs. Here is how we support you:
Plan Sponsors
A solid legacy of independence allows us to offer outstanding clinical programs
founded on evidence-based research, not merely fi nancial infl uence.
Consumers
Our focus on one consumer at a time and our aligned interest with members means
that we create more opportunities for better health and value.
Investors
Our business model of alignment means that when plan sponsors and consumers save
money, we make money. Since our initial public offering in June 1992, our stock
price has increased more than 21,000%. An investment of $100 in 1992 would be
worth more than $21,000 at the end of 2009, compared with $270 if invested in
the S&P 500.
Employees
In an uncertain economic environment, more than 14,000 dedicated people around
the country share the positive results of their hard work and innovation.
