Everyone making
a difference
Our commitment to the communities in which we do
business extends beyond our role as a pharmacy benefi t
manager. Through our volunteerism, charitable giving
and sustainable practices, we are making a positive
difference to enhance the quality of life in our
extended neighborhoods.
Helping People in Need
Our employees, together with the Express Scripts
Foundation, are working to deliver healthcare and
education to our communities, as well as supporting
civic progress. The energy, creativity and drive of our
employees is replicated in their volunteerism and
generosity. Each year, employees rally behind our
annual corporatewide campaigns to support the March
of Dimes, Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, National
Multiple Sclerosis Society and the United Way.
Countless local organizations benefi t from the time and
talents of our employees, and the Foundation’s grants help
improve the lives of thousands of people. Our emphases
are: healthcare — primarily for the uninsured and
underserved; education for at-risk youth; the development
of the next generation of healthcare and business
leadership; and programs that support civic progress.
Advancing Pharmacy
Education
In the St. Louis community,
2009 marked the fi rst
graduating class of the
BESt Pharmacy Summer
Institute, an intensive
two-year summer program
designed to prepare minority high school students for
careers in pharmacy. Founded by Express Scripts,
Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis College of
Pharmacy, the BESt program educates and informs
young people about the pharmacy profession while
equipping them with vital life skills. Through the
sponsoring organizations and the dedication of dozens
of motivated volunteers, the BESt program is
strengthening tomorrow’s pharmacy leadership by
reaching out to young people today.
Conserving for Our Future
Our sustainable practices mission is to enhance and
sustain the world’s natural and social environments.
Our headquarters buildings were constructed for
environmental excellence and are Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design (LEED) certifi ed. Our daily
business operations respect the environment and conserve
natural resources though practices that reduce waste and
energy, including extensive recycling and conservation
efforts. As a result of our headquarters design to reduce
greenhouse emissions, we have saved more than 162
tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere since
mid-2007. We are continually looking for ways to
reduce energy costs and consumption to ensure a
sustainable future for our world.
