3. Restructuring and Asset Impairment Charges, Net (Continued)
During 2008, the Company paid $1 million related to these actions and has $1 million accrued as
of September 26, 2008.
2005 and Prior Charges and Credits
The Company continues to maintain restructuring reserves related to certain actions initiated prior
to 2005. The total amount of these reserves are $16 million and $21 million at September 26, 2008 and
September 28, 2007, respectively. These balances primarily include facility exit costs for long-term
non-cancelable lease obligations within the ADT Worldwide and Fire Protection Services segments,
with expiration dates which range from 2008 to 2022.
