Entergy Corporation and Subsidiaries 2004
OUR NEST,
OUR WORLD
s
We have made a conscious
decision to support sustainable
development, meaning we
consciously integrate environmental,
social, and safety concerns into
our daily decision-making. We
have voluntarily committed to
stabilize greenhouse gas emissions
from our plants and we are
aggressively pursuing solutions
to meet the needs of our low-
income customers. We take these
commitments just as seriously as
we do our financial commitments
to our shareholders and lenders.
Nuclear Milestones
Of special note in 2004 is the recognition
several of our plants received for their
safe and efficient operations. Our James
A. FitzPatrick plant in New York
received OSHA Voluntary Protection
Program Star status recognition –
OSHAs highest possible industrial
safety rating for a work site. We now
have six nuclear plant sites that have
achieved VPP Star status.
To-date, our operating team at
FitzPatrick has worked more than
10 million labor-hours without a single
lost-time occurrence – a remarkable
achievement. In addition, FitzPatrick
also received the Platts Power magazine’s
2004 Marmaduke award for achieving
the best operations and maintenance
record in the country. FitzPatrick was
selected from more than 150 nominees
for accomplishments in the areas of
safety, performance, and costs.
In Arkansas, our ANO Unit 2 was
the winner of the Nuclear Energy
Institute Top Industry Practice award
for an innovative inspection technique
endorsed by the Nuclear Regulatory
Commission for one-time use. It
provided data as reliable as visual
inspection while saving an estimated
$3.6 million in outage costs as well as
10 days of additional outage downtime.
And it prevented additional radiation
exposure for our outage workers.
The Entergy Nuclear License
Renewal team also wonan NEITop
Industry Practice award for an
