Attrition
A measure to report active permanent voluntary turnover (attrition) from
1Julyto30June,reportedintotalforeachbusinessunitoftheQantas
GroupinAustraliaandoverseas.Itisbasedonnumberofemployeesand
excludesinvoluntaryterminations.Attritionassistsinworkforceplanning,
as an indicator of engagement and of future recruitment needs.
Percentage of women
The percentage of all employees who are female as at 30 June for the
Qantas Group in Australia and overseas. Attracting, developing and
retainingwomeninallareasoftheQantasbusinessremainsanongoing
priorityfortheGroup.AdditionalinformationcanbefoundintheQantas

Percentage of women in senior positions
The percentage of all female employees in senior management positions
across the Qantas Group in Australia and overseas as at 30 June. Senior

Percentage of employees eligible for retirement in the next five years
A measure to report on the percentage of active permanent employees in
theQantasGroupinAustraliaoroverseaswhoareeligible,orwillbe
eligible,toretireinthenext5yearsasat30June.Retirementeligibilityis
deemedtobewhenapermanentemployeereaches65yearsorabove.
Indigenous employees
Thenumberofself-identiedAboriginalandTorresStraitIslander
employeesbasedonnumberofemployeesacrosstheQantasGroup
as at 30 June. Qantas achieved its target of employing 200 Indigenous
AustraliansbyJune2008andremainscommittedtoreachingagoal
of450IndigenousemployeesbyDecember2011.
Absenteeism
Ameasuretoreporttheaveragenumberofdaystakenassickleave
perpersonfrom1Julyto30June,forAustralian-basedemployeesof
theQantasGroupexceptforCaterAirRiverside,CaterAirCairnsandJetstar.
Percentage of Executive Committee positions filled by talent pool
ThepercentageofQantasGroupopenpositions(ExecutiveCommitteelevelor
similarequivalentpositions)lledbyinternalcandidatesfromthetalentpool
from 1 July to 30 June. The talent pool comprises individuals identified
followingperiodicreviewbyQantasmanagementashavinghighpotential.
This talent and succession planning related indicator is used to indicate
readinessforexecutive(strategic)leadership.Itispartofseveralmetrics
usedtomanagekeypositionstoensurestrengthinsuccessionplanning
andtominimisebusinessdisruptioncosts.Whilethereisnosettarget,
thereisnoexpectationthatroleswillbelled100percentbyinternal
candidatesbasedontheneedtoacquirecriticalknowledgethatis
potentiallynotyetfullyavailableasinternalcapability.
Domestic on-time arrivals
Domestic on-time arrivals is defined as Australian domestic on-time arrivals
for the Qantas Group from 1 July to 30 June. A flight arrival is counted as
on time if it arrived at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival
time for Sectors flown. Neither diverted nor cancelled flights count as
beingontime.(BureauofInfrastructure,TransportandRegional
Economics (BITRE) definition).
Mishandled bags files per 1,000 passengers
Thenumberofleslodgedformishandledbagsper1,000passengers
carriedbyQantasandQantasLinkdomesticallyandinternationallyfrom1
Julyto30June.Amishandledbagisdenedasanydelayedbagforwhich
a report was filed within specified time limits. Details of the time limits can

Aviation fuel consumption
ThetotalvolumeofaviationkeroseneconsumedbytheQantasGroup’s
yingbusinessesfrom1Julyto30June.Aviationfuelconsumption
includesQantas,Jetstar,RegionalAirlines,Jetconnect,andFreight,for
bothdomesticandinternationaloperations.Aviationfuelconsumption
doesnotincludeconsumptionbycodesharepartners.
Electricity consumption
ThetotalamountofelectricityconsumedbyQantasGroupsiteswithin
AustraliaasmeasuredinMWh(megawatthours)from1Julyto30June.
Natural gas consumption
TotalnaturalgasconsumedbyQantasGroupsiteswithinAustraliaas
measuredinGJ(gigajoules)from1Julyto30June.
Airport ground petrol and diesel consumption
AirportgroundfuelconsistsofunleadedpetrolanddieselusedbyQantas
Airport sites within Australia from 1 July to 30 June. Both unleaded petrol
and diesel are measured in L (litres).
Water consumption
TotalwaterconsumedbyQantasGroupsiteswithinAustraliaasmeasured
inKL(kilolitres)from1Julyto30June.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions – aviation
Theamountofcarbondioxide(CO2) generated from aviation fuel
consumption(asdenedabove)from1Julyto30June.Qantasappliesthe
NationalGreenhouseAccounts(NGA)Factorsconversionsandmethodology
issuedbytheAustralianGovernment’sDepartmentofClimateChangefor
CO2 calculation. CO2 emissions do not include those generated from fuel
consumedbycodesharepartners.
Carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-e) emissions – aviation
Theamountofgreenhousegasemissionsmeasuredincarbondioxide
equivalent (CO2-e) generated from aviation fuel consumption (as defined
above)from1Julyto30June.UndertheAustralianGovernment’s
Department of Climate Change National Greenhouse Accounts (NGA)
Factors,emissionsincorporatedintothecalculationincludecarbondioxide
(CO2), methane (CH4)andnitrousoxide(N2O). Qantas applies the NGA
FactorsconversionsandmethodologyforthecalculationofCO2-e.
