In 2014, we elevated our efforts to more clearly assess,
articulate and value the attributes of the DineEquity®
corporate culture. Throughout this process we
actively engaged our team members to help identify
and validate the key cultural elements that positively
differentiate DineEquity from other organizations.
This work clarified what attracted talented individuals
to the company, what is most rewarding and impor-
tant to our team members, what is unique about the
team member experience, and what can be done to
strengthen our strong cultural foundation.
Of the many positive attributes identified, we are
especially proud that team members have a genuine
ability to be heard, to make an impact, and to be
inspired by their opportunity to make a personal
difference everyday!
We also believe it is important to understand
specifically how our cultural attributes impact the
overall effectiveness of the organization. For the past
six years, we have measured our progress with tools
including an organization wide engagement survey.
Our 2014 survey showed continued and meaningful
improvement in team member perceptions in
multiple categories. These include areas such as
work environment, celebrating achievements,
recognition, professional development, ability to
make a difference and cross-functional trust. The
results also told us that DineEquity is above the
survey benchmark for overall experience, retention
and employee engagement.
A key component to driving organizational effec-
tiveness and team member engagement is our
philosophy that every team member, manager and
leader is accountable for effecting positive cultural
change that is aligned with our values, and that this
journey is never ending. Successful organizations
continuously assess and embrace opportunities for
improvement. To this end, we will conduct another
engagement survey in 2015 consistent with our
approach to engage all team members and enable
them to make a positive difference.
No organization-wide culture initiative would be
complete without contacting DineEquity’s franchisees.
For this reason we also periodically conduct surveys
of our franchise partners to gauge their levels of
