Optical lenses and materials
As functions and performance standards rise for semiconductors, LCD televisions,
personal computers and digital cameras, and as these products grow more compact,
Hoya maintains the technical skills, development capabilities and production systems
to respond accurately to such needs. Hoya thereby sustains a large share of each of
these markets. The Electro-Optics Division has become a driver of growth and profits
for the Hoya Group.

The Photonics Division applies optics technologies cultivated over many years to
provide light source devices and equipment that utilize lasers and UV. Many of these
products are used in manufacturing processes for semiconductors, LCD panels and
digital cameras, and Hoya anticipates that the divisions business will benefit from
positive synergies with the Electro-Optics Division.

The Vision Care Division is engaged in global markets with a focus on four regions:
Japan, Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific. Hoya develops its businesses in this
field in ways that best reflect the varying commercial practices, laws, government
regulations and consumer preferences in each region. The Company holds the top
market share in Japan, based on the high quality and unquestionable value of its
products. In Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, demand is rising for high-value-added
products such as Hoyas excellent progressive and high index lenses.

Intraocular lenses (IOLs)
The Health Care Division is responsible for the development of the Eye City chain of
contact lens specialty stores, and it also produces and sells intraocular lenses (IOLs)
used in the treatment of cataracts. Eye City is the largest chain in its market segment in
Japan. The Eye City business continues to attract more customers, thanks to the broad
range of excellent products sourced from Japan and overseas to meet the needs of its
diverse customers, not to mention its superior client consultation service and full
range of after-sales services. Hoya markets IOLs globally, with focus on its headquarters
in the United States.

Leveraging its optics and precision processing technologies developed over many
years, the Pentax business develops and sells a broad selection of products, including
medical devices, digital cameras, lens units for digital cameras, and microlenses.
Particularly in the medical devices market, Hoya is garnering strong support for its
development of flexible endoscopes with unprecedented image clarity and device
operability. In cameras, the Company offers products with superior image quality and
performance.
Note: Included here for reference are 12-month net sales and operating margin figures for Pentax
Corporation and its consolidated subsidiaries, prior to inclusion in the Hoya Group.
The Crystal business provides top-grade crystal glass products created with masterful
technique from quality glass. The Service business is mainly engaged in the development
and operation of information systems for the companies in the Hoya Group.
