Networks for flexibility. The BMW Group’s production loca-
tions cooperate closely. As a rule, each plant will produce
at least two models and their variants. Thanks to flexible
structures, individual models can be integrated into produc-
tion at another location, if necessary. For example, in addi-
tion to manufacturing BMW 7, 6 and 5 Series models, the
Dingolfing plant can adapt its capacity to produce 3 Series
cars, which are otherwise manufactured primarily in the
plants in Regensburg, Munich and Rosslyn, South Africa.
Selective partnerships and networks provide the BMW
Group with additional room to manoeuvre. For example, the
new BMW X3 is manufactured in cooperation with Magna
Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik in Graz, Austria. Through this project-
based cooperation the BMW Group has secured additional
capacity in a critical phase of its product and market offen-
sive
and can thus use its own strengths even more efficiently.
