thisformat.In2003,webeganconvertingstoresonamarket-by-marketbasisandwillcontinuewiththisefficientplanasweconvertallofour
stores overthe next severalyears.In2004, we heldgrand reopeningcelebrationsin severalofourmajormarkets including Orlando,Florida;
Nashville,Tennessee;andAustinandSanAntonio,Texas.
Ournewstorescontinuetoachieveevenhighersalesintheirfirstyear.Ourfocusonopeningstoresprimarilyinunder-penetratedmarketscombined
withournationaladvertisingcampaignisraisingourbrandawarenessandstrengtheningourpositionasaleaderintheautomotiveaftermarket.
Ourin-storeinitiativesalsoareenhancingourcustomerservicelevelsanddrivingconsistentsame-storesalesgrowth.Ourinvestmentinthelatest
technology,suchasourproprietaryPOSandelectronicpartscatalogsystem,APAL(AdvancePartsandAccessoriesLookup),isputtingthetools
thatourteamneedsattheirfingertipstoserveourcustomersbetter.Inaddition,ourMPT(ManagementPlanningandTraining)systemishelping
ourstoremanagerstoimproveourcustomers’shoppingexperiencebyhavingtherightTeamMemberdoingtherightjobattherighttime.
WealsointroducedourConsumerEducationprogramin2004,whichisthefirstprogramofitstypeinourindustry.Twoelementsofthisgrow-
ingprogramareourfreebrochurekiosksdisplaying“We’rereadywithAnswers,”andourfreemonthlyvideoclinicsbroadcastonAdvanceTV,our
exclusivein-storehow-tonetwork.This informationisalsoavailableon ourinformativeweb site,www.AdvanceAutoParts.com.Thisprogramis
providingourcustomersinformationregarding“whyto”and“howto”performregularvehiclemaintenance,inordertoenhancetheirvehicles’
safety,reliability,andappearance.

count,inthemajorityofourmarkets.
In2004, weopened125newstores,ending theyearwitha totalof
2,652,increasingoursquarefootageby4.6%.
In2005,weplantoopen150–175newstores,whichwillincreaseour
squarefootageby6%to7%.
Withjustunder100storesremaining,wewillcompletetheconversion
ofourDiscountAutoPartsstoresinFloridaduring2005.
Wehaveincreasedourmarketshareineveryregionwhereweoperate
duetostrongsame-storesalesgrowthandnewstoreopenings.
Webelievewehavetheopportunitytoaddatleast1,500newstoresin
existingunder-penetratedmarkets.
