U.S. CELLULAR 1
2013 Performance Highlights
We had a year of significant change, as we
implemented strategic actions and initiatives
that positioned us to compete more effectively
going forward. We divested underperforming
wireless markets to focus on stronger markets.
We launched Apple products for the first time to
create a truly competitive device portfolio. We
converted to a new billing and operational
support system that will support faster delivery
of new services and products and more
consistent customer experiences. We achieved
a seamless, mid-year leadership transition. We
also returned $482 million to U.S. Cellular
shareholders through a special dividend, and
entered into agreements to sell non-strategic
spectrum for more than $400 million.
While our financial and operating results
continue to reflect the competitive environment
and the impact of these necessary investments,
we believe the actions we’ve taken will enable us
to improve our performance over time. In
addition to the initiatives above, we made
progress in a number of important areas:
 
use through expanded 4G LTE access, shared
data plans, and Android, Apple, and Windows
device offerings.
