CREATING CONFIDENCE
Symantec is setting the pace for security innovation with new
products and services that address emerging threats and meet
customers’ evolving needs. During fiscal year 2003, we spent
14% of total revenue on research and development, generating
new ideas and developing next-generation security technologies.
Currently, we’re focusing on intrusion prevention and behavior
blocking, application security, security management, and wireless
protection.
Our portfolio of patented innovations continues to grow.
Symantec has been awarded more than 70 patents in a variety
of areas, with a large number of additional patent applications
pending. The patent portfolio covers a variety of technologies and
processes in areas including antivirus, behavior blocking, intrusion
detection/prevention, firewall, security management, software
distribution, compression, encryption, and system utilities.
Knowledge, understanding, expertise, a simpler and smarter
integrated approach—for all these reasons and more, a growing
number of customers count on Symantec as their trusted security
partner for solutions, services, and information. Both Gartner
Group and IDC recognize Symantec as the largest Internet security
provider, based on product sales. In addition, more than 600 com-
panies around the world look to Symantec to manage their security
environment from one of our six Security Operations Centers.
Symantec customers launch more than 318 million
LiveUpdate™ sessions every day, totaling more than 16 million
megabytes of data transferred, to get the latest protection across
our breadth of solutions. Each day, Symantec’s Web site gets
nearly six million hits on average by customers around the world
looking for comprehensive information about threats and solutions
to address them. We send more than 100 proactive alerts a week
to our customers, notifying them of possible threats to their envi-
ronments. So our customers can spend less time worrying about
security, more time pursuing new opportunities.
At Symantec, it is our experience that when you give people
the security they need to have pure confidence in a connected
world, the possibilities are endless.
