Communications Sales and Marketing
The decrease in Communications sales and marketing expenses was attributable to a $5.4 million decrease in advertising, promotion and
distribution costs primarily related to our dial-up Internet access services and a $5.2 million decrease in personnel- and overhead-related
expenses primarily as a result of reduced headcount. We anticipate that Communications sales and marketing expenses will increase in 2012 as
compared to 2011 due to the planned promotion of the NetZero 4G mobile broadband service.
Communications Technology and Development
The decrease in Communications technology and development expenses was the result of a decrease in personnel- and overhead-related
expenses as a result of reduced headcount.
Communications General and Administrative
The decrease in Communications general and administrative expenses was primarily due to a $3.3 million decrease in personnel- and
overhead-related costs as a result of reduced headcount and, to a lesser extent, a $0.5 million decrease in bad debt expense.
Communications Restructuring and Other Exit Costs
Communications restructuring and other exit costs for the year ended December 31, 2011 were primarily related to employee termination
costs associated with a reduction in headcount and, to a lesser extent, contract termination and facility exit costs. Communications restructuring
