Corporate Social Responsibility
’The slogan “A Better Way to Go” expresses Kia Motors’
commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities
around the world. Through our CSR initiatives, we help to
make the world a better place. We offer education and training
opportunities to the less fortunate, enabling them to improve
their lives and create a brighter future.
Launched in 2012, the Green Light Project is our agship global
CSR program, supporting our belief that humankind is a giant
family and that we must help each other. The program aims to
present the less fortunate with opportunities that allow them to
follow their dreams, changing the “red light” in their lives to a
“green light”.
In 2012, we built a health center (the Green Light Center) in
Salima, Malawi, followed by construction of a middle school
(the Green Light School) in Nagashanqui, Tanzania. In 2014,
we completed building middle schools in Helene, Mozambique
and Lilongwe, Malawi. Meanwhile, we are establishing a car
maintenance training center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia which is
expected to support mobile maintenance service and provide
logistics operation vehicles for ve years. Our goal is to help address
youth unemployment, thereby improving the national economy.
Through the Green Light Project, we supply underdeveloped
countries with the means to help themselves and plan to gradually
broaden the program into Asia and South America.
Kia Motors is fullling its
corporate social responsibilities
based on its social contribution
values of “mobility” and
“challenge”.
We offer various forms of travel assistance to people with physical
disabilities so that they are able to get out into their communities
and participate in various activities. Launched as our signature
domestic CSR program in 2012, Green Trip provides Carnival Easy
Move vehicles as well as chauffeurs and travel expenses when
necessary so that those with disabilities can go on trips with their
families.
Kia is constantly increasing its efforts to assist individuals with
physical disabilities. In October 2014, for example, we expanded the
Green Trip program from the metropolitan area and southeastern
region to include the southwestern region, and we replaced all
program vehicles with the all-new Carnival. As of December
2014, there were over 10,000 Green Trip users. Our other theme
programs include: Hope Camp for the physically challenged and
their families; School Camp to assist schools for the disabled with
eld trips for their students; Harmony Expedition to improve travel
destinations for the disabled; and Independent Expedition to
provide small-scale gatherings for the disabled.
Organized in 2005, our employee volunteer groups have created
a corporate culture of volunteerism. Our volunteers engage in a
wide range of social contribution efforts through our employee-
led Challenger Volunteer program and through the K-Family
Volunteer program for employees and their families.
In line with its young and dynamic brand image, Kia also
supports post-secondary student activities to encourage
students’ enthusiasm for learning. Our “Happy Volunteer”
program, which promotes volunteer work by college student
clubs, assisted a total of 20 post-secondary clubs across the
country in 2014. We also host the “Light the World” contest,
where college students submit research papers and project
proposals on CSR topics; and our “Soul Bicycle” program
provides bicycles to students, enabling them to make their
campuses more environmentally friendly. Meanwhile, our
“Happy Move” global youth volunteer program provides
students with opportunities to participate in volunteer service
around the world.
