Overseas Business Performance
Kia Motors will focus on sales growth
through localization, while continuously
increasing production volume both
domestically and globally.
Despite a demand slowdown in the global automotive market, Kia
Motors made remarkable achievements in 2014, recording year-on-
year sales growth of 5.9%. We established a firm footing as a brand
that is preferred by customers around the world, with particularly
strong growth in the U.S., Europe and China.
In 2014, annual sales by each of the big three global players,
Toyota, Volkswagen and GM, broke through the 10 million–unit
mark alongside a recovery in advanced markets and economic
slowdown in emerging regions. Despite these factors and
intensied competition, Kia Motors produced strong results
through localization while continuously increasing its production
both domestically and globally.
Kia Motors’ overseas sales rose by 5.9% from the previous year
thanks to our efforts to maximize productivity at our plants in the
U.S. and Europe as well as our third plant in China, which began
operation in early 2014.
By model, the Rio (K2) was the best seller, recording 500,623
units. It was followed by the Cerato (Forte/K3) with 481,536 units,
Sportage with 464,508 units, and Optima with 306,689 units.
By region, sales in the U.S. surged by 8.4% over 2013 while sales
in Europe grew by 4.3% to 354,000 units. In China, the world’s
largest automotive market, sales soared by 18.2% to 646,000 units.
We also upgraded our brand image around the world by carrying
out powerful marketing activities based on our design and quality
management.
