3. Emergency Braking and Signal Systems
Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB) and Emergency Signal System
(ESS) are driver assistance systems for emergency situations. AEB,
installed in the K9 (K900/Quoris) model, automatically kicks in
when sudden-braking vehicles and obstacles appear ahead. This
system reduces crashes by up to 27%. When a driver suddenly
brakes when driving over 50 km/h, ESS automatically blinks the
vehicle’s tail lamps to inform any cars behind of a dangerous
situation.
4. Lane Departure Prevention Systems
The Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) utilizes a camera on
the windshield to sense lanes and warns the driver while activating
the turn signal when the vehicle departs from its lane and the driver
fails to use the turn indicator. The Lane Keeping Assist System
(LKAS), currently in development, warns the driver when the vehicle
inadvertently departs from a lane and maneuvers the car back into
the lane if the driver does not respond.
5. Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
75% of tire problems arise from de-pressured tires. TPMS monitors
the air pressure inside the tires and warns the driver if the pressure
drops below the recommended level.
6. Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS)
SPAS assists with parking by offering voice guidance and alerting the
driver to movement around the vehicle. Using six ultrasonic sensors
at the front and four at the rear, SPAS identies available parking
spaces. The guidance system automatically operates when the driver
slowly steps on the gas pedal.
Concept Cars
Kia Motors’ development of concept cars demonstrates its
innovative brand spirit. We have also won recognition from
customers for our advanced technologies and design capabilities
that are shaping the future of the automotive industry.
KX3: Capturing the heart of China
The KX3 subcompact SUV was unveiled at the Guangzhou
International Auto Parts & Accessories Exhibition in 2014.
It is a unique and economical subcompact SUV model with highly
marketable characteristics, including design, safety, fuel efciency
and convenience. Developed for Chinese consumers who prefer
a capacious feeling, it highlights volume with a design utilizing
straight lines. The KX3 is scheduled to be produced at our third
Chinese plant and launched in 2015.
GT4 Stinger: Dening the future of Kia
The GT4 Stinger, a rear-wheel drive sports coupe, is the tenth
concept car from our U.S. design center. Its 2.0 turbo GDI engine
and 6-speed manual transmission give it a maximum output of
315 hp, and its reduced weight contributes to its dynamic driving
performance. Equipped with a steering system that responds
delicately to the driver’s touch, it allows for more vibrant and
responsive handling. Lightweight and fun to drive, the GT4 Stinger
has won numerous awards, including a 2014 IDEA Award. The
GT4 Stinger demonstrates Kia’s signicant design capabilities while
dening a new design direction of purity and simplicity.
