DearShareholders,
2003wasanothersuccessfulyearforGameStop.Wewereprofitableeveryquarter,gainedmarketshareeveryquarter,andhave
positionedourcompanytobettertakeadvantageoftheexpandingopportunitiespresentedbytheGameStopbusinessmodel.
Lastyear,GameStopachievedrecordsales,recordprofits,andrecordearningspershare.We
finishedtheyearwith$1,578millioninsales,anincreaseof$226million;ouroperatingincome
at$104millionwas$17millionhigher,andouroperatingmarginincreasedtoarecord6.8%.In
addition,wegenerated$70millioninoperatingcashflows,invested$63millionincapitalexpen-
dituresandfinishedtheyearwithnodebtonourbalancesheet.
Iamparticularlyhappywithour6.8%operatingmargin.Evenwithasizableinvestmentinnew
storegrowthandinfrastructure,ouroperatingmarginisbyfarthebestofanyspecialtystore
competitorinourbusiness,andisareflectionofthecontinuedeffortstorefineouroperationsfor
improvedefficiency.
During2003,weopened300newstorescomparedwith210in2003.Inaddition,wecontinued
tomakesignificantinvestmentsinourinfrastructuretoinsurethatwithacceleratedgrowthwe
willstillremainresponsivetoourcustomers,whilekeepingourbusinessincontrolandrunningefficiently.Wearesoconfidentin
thefuturegrowthofthisbusinessthatweareforecastingthatwewillopenbetween300and330storesin2004.
Inayearinwhichtheeconomywasbrittleandjobcreationwasdifficultatthemacrolevel,GameStopcreatedover2,000new
positionsandemployedover12,000“gamers”throughoutthecountry.
Duringtheyear,wehavevirtuallycompletedthenationalrebrandingofourstoresundertheGameStopname,enhancingourabil-
itytomoreactivelyandefficientlymarketourselvestothegrowinganddiversecustomerbaseforvideogameproducts.
Bothofourtwonon-retaildivisions,GameStop.comand
GameInformer
Magazine,hadoutstandingyears.Botharerapidlygrow-
ing,bothareprofitableandhaveexcitingfutures.
GameStop.comhascontinuedtoaggressivelyimproveouronlineoffers,andlatelastyearbeganapartnershipwithAmazon.com
tobetheirexclusivevideogamespecialist.Asweaddadditionalfeaturesontheirsite,weexpectevenmorerobustgrowthduring
thecomingyear.

hasbeenthefastestgrowingconsumermagazineforthepasttwoyears,andisthe56thlargestcirculationcon-
sumermagazineinthecountry.
GameInformer’s
growthhasbeennothinglessthanphenomenal.
Wefirmlybelievethatthevideogamebusinesswillcontinuetoattractanever-wideningcustomerbaseasthecreativityofthe
softwarewriters,combinedwithimprovingtechnology,willdeliverasuperiorentertainmentexperience.
Ourgoalisnotonlytokeepupwiththechangesinthebusiness,buttomoveaheadofthedemandandcreatenewbusinessfrom
newusers.OursuccessfulnewstoregrowthisproofthattherearemanyuntappedmarketsforGameStop,andwearebetterat
identifyinglocationsandnegotiatingfavorableleases.
Weareproudofouraccomplishments,confidentinourfutureandexcitedaboutthemany
