Gail Aldrich (Board
Chair). Gail Aldrich,
SPHR, of northern
Nevada, is chair of the
AARP Board of
Directors. In this
capacity, she chairs both the
Governance Committee and the
Compensation Committee.
Previously, she was chief membership
officer for the Society for Human
Resource Management (SHRM),
senior vice president and chief
administrative officer for the
California State Automobile
Association, vice president of
administration and corporate
secretary of the company now known
as Exponent and vice president of
human resources for the Electric
Power Research Institute. She has
served on several boards and has
chaired the boards of SHRM,
Good360 and Lytton Gardens, which
assists low-income seniors.
Carol Raphael (Board
Vice Chair). Carol
Raphael, MPA, of New
York, New York, an
Advanced Leadership
Fellow at Harvard
University, serves as AARP Board
Vice Chair. She is chair of the
Member and Social Impact
Committee, and a member of the
Compensation Committee and the
AARP Services Inc. Board of
Directors. Before retiring in 2011 as
president and CEO of the Visiting
Nurse Service of New York, she
served as director at Mount Sinai
Medical Center and executive
deputy commissioner in charge of
New York City’s Medicaid and
public assistance programs. She
chairs the New York eHealth
Collaborative, the Long Term
Quality Alliance and the National
Quality Forum Workgroup on
Post-Acute and Long Term Care.
A. James Forbes, Jr.
(Secretary/Treasurer).
Jim Forbes, a financial
executive residing in
New York, is AARP’s
Secretary/Treasurer. He
chairs the Audit and Finance
Committee and also serves on the
Compensation Committee.
Previously, he was audit chair and
treasurer for the AARP Foundation
Board of Directors. He has been an
interim executive services partner in
the not-for-profit practice at Tatum
LLC, executive vice chairman for
AmeriCares, chief financial and
operational controller for Mercedes-
Benz N.A., and has led the
turnaround of several for-profit
corporations. As a volunteer, he
served as a founder and chair of the
Biomedical Engineering and
Alliance Consortium (BEACON)
Foundation board and served on
the board of the YMCA Vocational
Counseling and Testing Service in
New York City.
