Retired educators are strong cham-
pions in recognizing young people as
a positive force in American society.
Through the With Our Youth! program,
NRTA: AARP’s Educator Community
uplifts a half-million young people in
more than 1,000 communities every year.
In Pennsylvania, for example, school
retirees saved Lehigh County more than
$3.7 million through 26,000 hours of
volunteer service that included serving
as classroom aides, filling backpacks
with weekend food supplies and pur-
chasing winter gloves and scarves for
low-income students.
DISASTER RELIEF
AARP Foundation, a charitable affiliate
of AARP, raised more than $1 million to
assist older victims of Typhoon Haiyan,
which devastated portions of the Philip-
Volunteer mentors with AARP Experience
Corps changed the lives of 27,000 children in
kindergarten through third grade by helping
them become better readers.
