Most people turning 50 today can expect
to live another 30-plus years. At the same
time, 10,000 people a day are turning
65—and that will continue for the next
17 years. This is creating a new life
stage in our life cycle we call the “age of
possibilities.
Boomers created it because they reject
the notion that their possibilities are
shrinking as they age. They are driven
by a desire to reimagine their lives and
explore the possibilities that lie ahead.
But they are also driven by a fear of the
unknown—of outliving their money,
losing their independence, failing health,
becoming a burden on their families or
being bored.
Our job at AARP is to help people see
the real possibilities that lie ahead while
also helping them to face their fears—in
other words, to help them live their best
lives.
In 2013, we made great strides in
fighting for and equipping individuals
to live their best lives. We protected
and strengthened Social Security and
