Staying sharp for a lifetime is the top health
priority for AARP members.
Since information about diseases of the
brain are well covered by other organi-
zations, AARP focused on eating smart,
being fit, working your mind, socializing
and reducing stress in news articles, the
online Brain Health Center and lectures
during both of AARP’s Life@50+ events.
AARP’s first themed membership option,
Staying Sharp, included online brain
training, a pedometer and an email news-
letter dedicated to the science behind all
aspects of brain health.
A wide range of other efforts helped
people take steps to enjoy better health.
>Not everyone can afford health care,
and many people—particularly in
rural areas or inner cities—do not have
ready access to health professionals.
More than 45,000 people received 10
free health tests, such as for blood pres-
sure and total cholesterol, along with
health education resources in English
and Spanish through the Walgreens
Way to Well Health Tour with AARP.
Health technicians on four specially
equipped buses travelled in the U.S.
and Puerto Rico for the ninth year.
