resources we are also aintainin our focus on reducin
our waste.
e tr to reduce the aount of aterials we use in our operations and
to reuse the rather than dispose of the. an of our waste aterials
can be turned into resources and redirected bac into the suppl chain.
e use a nuber of specialist contractors to reccle aterials that we
cannot reuse. hese include cables networ euipent wood and
other ied recclin such as paper and cardboard. or haardous
waste aterials such as batteries uorescent liht tubes and oil we
use specialist contractors who ae sure the waste is reccled and
anaed accordin to leislation. e have around 000 sites which
each produce ore than 00 of haardous waste a ear. he are
reistered with the appropriate UK environental authorit.
Water usage
ost of the water we use is used in washroos and caterin facilities
at our oces. e also use water to cool euipent at our oces and
telephone echanes. his ear we bean a prorae to install water
eters at sites that toether account for half of our total water use
in the UK. he new eters provide half-hourl water easureents
ivin us a ore accurate understandin of how we use water and
helpin us spot leas ore uicl. his will help us identif where we
can save water and we estiate this alone will help us cut our water
useb  in 011.
Energy use and carbon footprint
  is responsible for anain the roups ener consuption and
for puttin strateies in place to cut our carbon footprint.
e have sined lon-ter ower urchase reeents with wind and
solar fars. hese will provide 1 of our electricit needs in reat
ritain fro net ear. ne contract connects a lare solar far to our
 facilit at dastral ar. e believe this is the larest arraneent
of its ind in the UK and will provide up to  of the electricit needed
b the ar on sunn das.
n reat ritain we spent around 0 on ener and fuel this ear
011 9 the increase fro last ear reects hiher ener
prices. e estiate our ener savins prorae delivered a .
reduction in consuption and is epected to enerate over  in
annualised cost savins. his is the sith consecutive ear that we have
achieved a reduction and taes the total savins calculated on this basis
to 1.
