the fourth quarter of 2014; we also have an
option for a second vessel during the second
quarter of 2015.
Safety, Security and Environment
Our commitment to the environment and the
well-being of our guests and crew are of the
utmost importance to us at Royal Caribbean and
our efforts in these endeavors remain unwaver-
ing. Central to our ethical philosophy is the belief
that without due care and focus on our steward-
ship responsibilities, none of the rest matters.
The list of recent accomplishments and future
to do’s” is too long to detail, but a few highlights
include installation of state-of-the-art waste-
water treatment plants, the “Save the Waves”
campaign which focuses on minimizing our envi-
ronmental impact and our constant investments
in new policies and technologies. I am particu-
larly proud of strides we are making in the area
of fuel consumption and efficiency. New tech-
nology, policies, solar panels and ship innovations
have allowed us to reduce our fuel consumption
by an astounding 20% per guest day since 2005.
For additional information regarding our efforts
regarding Safety and the Environment I would
encourage you to review our third annual
Stewardship Report which is available on our
corporate websites. We take these areas extremely
seriously and the Stewardship Report provides
an extensive overview of what we have accom-
plished as well as what we expect to accomplish
pursuant to our continuous improvement mantra.
Looking Ahead
We are a company of innovators and that inno-
vation has built the best brands and best fleets
in the industry; but I also feel as though we are
entering a new and exciting era. Not only are
our ships and crew beginning to receive the
commercial reputation to which they are due,
but we are also reaping the benefits of that
innovative spirit in areas such as cost contain-
ment, capital deployment and corporate returns.
By harnessing and marrying these innovations,
we will continue to build a platform that rewards
our guests, employees and shareholders alike.
In closing, Id like to thank the millions of guests
who entrusted us with the opportunity to provide
an extraordinary vacation experience this year
and the ongoing efforts our 60,000+ employees
that deliver our exceptional product with such
dedication and panache. Additionally, the unwaver -
ing support, guidance and active involve ment
of our Board of Directors remains invaluable in
navigating these uncertain times.
Sincerely,
Richard D. Fain
