Visitors to the Neckarsulm plant’s open day at
the end of September 2006 were able to witness
the unique blend of tradition and innovation
represented by Audi at first hand. To celebrate
the 100th anniversary of car making at Neckar-
sulm, the plant was open to the public for two
days, inviting visitors to take a journey through
the history of car production at Neckarsulm. As
well as historic vehicle models, the current mod-
el range was on show, together with the Audi
R8* putting in its first appearance in Germany.
Its production start at Neckarsulm was officially
marked at a ceremony attended by numerous
invited guests, among them Baden-Württem-
berg’s Prime Minister Günther Oettinger and
football legend Franz Beckenbauer. The visitors
were treated to a colourful, varied programme
illustrating the process of creating a car.
The Elton John Aids Foundation is
one of the many projects that Audi is
supporting as part of its extensive
social sponsorship activities. Audi
has now been sponsoring the “White
Tie & Tiara Ball” and the Oscar View-
ing Event likewise organised by the
pop star for the past five years. The
highlights in the accompanying
charity auctions this year included
the new TT Coupé and the Audi Q7.
Between them they raised around
900,000 US dollars, which will go to
HIV/Aids relief programmes.
A new chapter in the lives of 682
young men and women began on
September 8, 2006: 453 of them
started apprenticeships at Audi in In-
golstadt. A further 229 young people
entered training at Neckarsulm. Audi
provides training in 18 vocations in
Ingolstadt, and two young people
embarked on an apprenticeship in a
new vocation: technical product de-
signer. Their task will be to reconcile
the diverging wishes of design
studio, technology and workshop.
Following the successful completion
of their training, all apprentices can
expect to find secure jobs at Audi.

Assisting with
papal visit
Audi supplied vehicles
for the visit of Pope
Benedict XVI to Bavaria.
The vehicles used com-
prised six of the A8 L W12
quattro Security saloons
for the Pope, plus ten
further A8 saloons for the
papal delegation.
Bavarian Order
of Merit
Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn
has been awarded the
Bavarian Order of Merit in
recognition of his social
involvement in Bavaria.
He thus joins the 1,795
living recipients of the
Order, of which there may
only be 2,000 at any given
time. Bavarian Prime
Minister Edmund Stoiber
presented the white and
blue “Pour le mérite” in
person to Prof. Dr. Martin
Winterkorn at the Anti-
quarium of Munich’s
Residenz Palace. Bavaria
fared well with two im-
portant decisions reached
in 2006: both the new
Audi A5 and the new Audi
Q5 will be built in Ingol-
stadt.
