most effective ways to keep health care spending under control.
Lower Overall Health Care Costs
When taken as directed, they form a potent fi rst line
of defense against diabetes, heart disease, and dozens
of other chronic and acute medical conditions. Our
integrated approach to pharmacy care engages plan
participants in more ways to help them stay compliant
with their prescription drug regimens. Moreover, CVS
pharmacists are in a unique position to reinforce the
importance of staying on therapy. For example, our
targeted First Fill Counseling program shows a 15 per-
cent improvement in adherence when we engage
patients face-to-face. In another program, 35 percent
of our PBM plan participants were willing to restart
therapy on a drug they were no longer taking because
they were prompted to do so by their CVS pharmacist.
