Every day thousands of Americans are newly diagnosed
with serious conditions requiring treatment with a specialty
medication. After receiving their diagnoses, often their fi rst
steps are to bring their new prescriptions to be fi lled at their
local pharmacy. Unfortunately, not all retail pharmacies carry
these medications in their regular inventory because specialty
medications are part of complex and expensive treatment
regimens. Even if they do, many prescriptions will not be able
to be billed to their traditional pharmacy insurance plan. As
a result, some patients may leave the pharmacy without their
