Europe business suffers from lower volumes and weights
Revenue dropped by .  in the Europe region to  , million (previous year:
 , million). is included exchange rate losses of   million, primarily attribut-
able to our  / Ireland, Scandinavia and Central Europe business. Adjusted for these
losses as well as acquisitions in Spain and Romania, revenue in the region declined by
. . Our Europe business su ered in the wake of the recession from a drop in vol-
umes in the  product line and from lower weights in the  product group. Daily
shipment volumes in  and  began recovering in the fourth quarter and closed
the quarter with a slight increase.
Costs reduced considerably in the Americas region
Since February , we have no longer been o ering a domestic express product
in the United States, and we have massively reduced our cost basis there. Restructur-
ing in the  continued on schedule in the year under review and resulted in a total
expense of   million. Revenue in the Americas region, which includes the ,
and the other regions of the Americas (Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean),
slipped by .  to  , million (previous year:  , million).  is gure includes
exchange rate losses of   million. Measured in local currencies, revenue fell by . .
Outside of the , revenue fell organically by .  compared with the prior year.  e
daily shipment volumes for  in the  dropped by .  on account of the reces-
sion and our restructuring initiatives, a smaller reduction than anticipated.
