When people think “FANTASY sound,” they tend to focus on music, but music is just a small part
of the many elements of game sound.
These days, the minimum requirements for game sound are sound effects, voices, and music
as well as a sound engine that is necessary for generating those elements in an interactive and
multichannel way, which must be of better quality than their movie counterparts.
In the game world, gamers travel around at will, engage in battles, communicate with other
players and continue a story, with the sound effects of each and every one of the motions
converging—and that combination is expected to be of a quality as if one were watching a movie.
The production of game sound differs with the production of sound used for movies, which
can ultimately be completed through editing on a timeline. Game sound production requires time
and sophisticated technical skill, making it an extremely difficult task. But the end result is sound
that creates a sense of immersion which allows for the
most brilliant, powerful form of entertainment unlike any
other in the world.
