Management Report
2014
30
In order to reduce their paper consumption, several sites have already opted for a paperless
management policy:
For their invoices:
- United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, Japan,
Australia where legislation is sometimes more flexible.
- Paperless solutions project currently underway in France.
For their pay slips: France, Italy (Buccinasco, Milan), Netherlands, Denmark, Japan (Tokyo),
Korea, Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, China (Chengdu), India, Romania, Singapore, Sweden,
United States (Cary, NC). Ubisoft saves almost 130,000 sheets per year by means of this
policy.
Some sites also configure their printers’ default settings to print on both sides (Germany, Bulgaria,
Canada, China, Morocco, France, Netherlands, Denmark, United Kingdom, Singapore, Sweden,
Japan, Australia) or make their employees aware of this issue via e-mails sent out by management
(Germany, United Kingdom, Switzerland) or by implementing internal awareness policies such as
“Think before your print.”
1.4.3.3.3 Energy consumption and use of renewable energies
Ubisoft only measures electricity as an energy source in its annual survey as other energy sources are
negligible compared with electricity.
In 2013, the Group measured consumption
15
of 30,658 thousand kWh, the main consumers of which
were:
CANADA
16
FRANCE
ROMANIA
CHINA
UNITED
STATES
OTHER
COUNTRIES

The countries with high consumption, such as Canada, France, Romania and China, have data
centers that use large amounts of electricity.
Some of the electricity used by the Ubisoft Group comes from renewable energies, which helps to limit
its environmental impact. The Montreal and Quebec studios, which account for 32.8% of total Ubisoft
staff, have formed a partnership with the electricity supplier Hydro-Québec, 98% of whose production
comes from hydroelectric dams. The Japanese subsidiary (Tokyo) also receives 13.5% of its supply
from hydroelectricity. Other sites receive electricity from renewable sources at rates of between 10%
and 57% (United Kingdom: 10%; Germany: 25%; Italy: 30%; Romania: 57%).
In 2013, the Group continued to list and encourage measures to reduce overall energy consumption:
18 sites
17
use energy-saving bulbs.
Many sites have already introduced good practices to limit the consumption of their IT
equipment, air-conditioning and lighting systems, which are mostly shut down at weekends
(server rooms being an exception):
- The sites in Sofia, Chengdu, Casablanca, Singapore, Malmö, Kiev, Cary (United
States) and Barcelona have put a system in place to turn their lighting systems off in
the evening.
