Exelon Generation
Exelon Nuclear With 10 plants and 17 operating units, Exelon Nuclear operates the largest nuclear fleet in the United
States and the third largest commercial fleet in the world. We intend to become the best nuclear fleet operator
worldwide by operating safely, reliably and cost-competitively. We plan to improve equipment performance, reduce
costs, and standardize how we do business. Each of these steps improves Exelon Nuclear’s competitiveness in the
ever-changing electricity market.
We plan to generate high levels of reliable electricity to meet the demands of consumers. We also expect to continue
to expand our capacity over the next several years through a variety of methods, including plant enhancements to
improve megawatt production.
Exelon Power Exelon Power manages, operates and maintains the Company’s fossil (coal, natural gas and oil), landfill gas
and hydro fleet of generation assets. The fleet is comprised of 86 intermediate and peaking units located in Pennsylvania,
Maryland and Texas, and provides 7,338 megawatts of net generating capacity, with even more in development.
Exelon Power delivers the megawatts as needed when Power Team calls, and has been able to deliver when called
upon at a rate nearing 95 percent (94.4% for the year), while maintaining strict safety and environmental standards.
Exelon Power has approximately 600 employees.
Exelon Power Team Exelon Power Team is the wholesale power marketing division. Our role is to improve the Company’s
profitability by ensuring optimum use of generating assets. Our strong reliability record has established Exelon as a
preferred supplier for customers in every region of the country.
Power Team’s traders help develop the strategies for acquisitions and contracts for supply and transmission rights.Traders
also schedule generation from the next hour to the next month, selling or buying power as cost and need dictate.
Power Team also focuses on hedging and trading in physical and financial markets, including power, natural gas, heating
oil, coal, emission allowances, capacity, congestion permits, and weather derivatives.
Consider the energy it takes to keep a business running every hour, every day of the
year. A typical commercial customer consumes nearly 40,000 kilowatt hours a day.
No problem for Exelon: it takes only one of Exelon’s nuclear units to provide the
equivalent annual energy used by a city of 750,000.
