HARVESTING THE SUN
IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE
Large-scale solar projects currently provide energy at about half the
cost of rooftop solar panels and can produce 50 percent more energy,
panel-for-panel. These systems benet from their scale and are
located in areas that maximize sun exposure. Sun tracking and other
technology enhancements help to maximize their generating capacity.
Xcel Energy purchases solar energy under long-term agreements with
project owners. At the end of 2015, we reached approximately 190
megawatts of large-scale solar on our systemsenough to power
53,000 average-size homes for a year. In 2016, we will add nearly
three times this solar capacity as seven new, large-scale projects
begin producing power in locations throughout our service territory.
Smaller community solar gardens are also sprouting up across
the states we serve. In 2015, Vetter Farms in southern Minnesota
partnered with Minnesota-based Novel Energy Solutions to bring
online the rst community solar garden in Minnesota under
Xcel Energy’s Solar*Rewards® Community® program.
The program allows developers to connect solar arrays to Xcel Energys
electric distribution system and participating subscribers to receive
a credit on their Xcel Energy bill. The program is designed to provide
a new option for Xcel Energy’s Minnesota customers who want to
participate directly in a solar energy program but cannot or do not
want to install their own solar panels. It allows neighboring residents,
nonprots, churches and businesses to share access to solar energy.
HIRING THE VERY BEST
Xcel Energy continues to be recognized for its
leadership in veteran hiring. With 9 percent of our
workforce comprised of veterans and for exceeding
our 10 percent annual veteran hiring goal in 2015,
Monster/Military.com ranked Xcel Energy as
No. 8 in their Best Companies for Veterans list.
Military Times named us one of the country’s top
places for veterans to work for the second year
in a row. Ben Fowke was also honored with the
Responsible CEO of the Year award from Corporate
Responsibility magazine for our efforts to recruit
and retain military veterans.
Mario Gradillas joined Xcel Energy on October 14, 2013,
after serving a four-year active enlistment in the United
States Air Force. Mario spent most of his time working
as a crew chief at Little Rock Air Force Base.
At Xcel Energy, Gradillas is a compliance training consultant
to help ensure we have a qualied and trained workforce.

We reached 190 megawatts of large-scale solar capacity on our system
in 2015 from solar farms in several states, including the Greater Sandhill
solar farm in southwestern Colorado.
