20 Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises uphold the strictest
environmental standards and utilize the most advanced technology. Six ships
launched between 2000 and 2002 are equipped with the cruise industrys first
smokeless, gas turbine engines. Environmental Officers, the stewards of our ocean
protection programs, work with crew members and dozens of companies to recycle
and reuse products and ensure proper disposal. In 2001, the fleet conducted
research in the management of solid and liquid waste and eliminated hazardous
waste from photo operations. The fleet has earned and maintained its voluntary
certification against the ISO 14001 standard, issued by the International
Standards Organization. Continuous improvement is achieved by identifying
Significant Environmental Aspects and setting objectives and targets for the
reduction in the use of natural resources and reduction of nitrous oxide emissions.
