Founded in 1978, The Home Depot, Inc. is the world’s largest home improvement retailer, the
second largest retailer in the United States, and the sixth largest retailer on a global basis, with
fiscal 2002 sales of $58.2 billion. Home Depot®stores are full-service, warehouse-style stores
averaging approximately 108,000 square feet in size. The stores stock approximately 40,000
to 50,000 different kinds of building materials, home improvement supplies, décor and lawn
and garden products that are sold to do-it-yourselfers, home improvement contractors, trades
people, and building maintenance professionals. At the end of fiscal 2002, the Company was
operating 1,532 stores in total, which included 1,370 Home Depot stores, 52 EXPO Design
Center®stores, 5 Home Depot SupplySM stores, 3 Home Depot Landscape SupplySM stores and
1 Home Depot Floor Store location in the United States; 89 Home Depot stores in Canada and
12 Home Depot stores in Mexico. In addition, the Company operates APEX Supply Company®,

, and three flooring companies operating under HD Builder Solutions Group. The
Home Depot has been publicly traded since 1981. The Home Depot trades on the New York
