8 AARP 2012 YEAR IN REVIEW
the Supreme Court found the
critically important provisions of
the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to
be constitutional. This landmark
legislation had already begun
improving the health and financial
security of all Americans. AARP
continued informing members
about how the law will affect them,
such as through materials available
in nine languages and an online
AARP Health Law Guide (www.aarp.
org/HealthLawGuide) that provided
consumers with an individualized
report. Separately, in nearly every
state, AARP’s grassroots advocates
won victories in helping people
remain independent at home
through long-term care services. In
New York, for example, thousands
of low-income seniors could remain
at home through supportive
services, thanks to restoration of
$34 million Medicaid funds.
