17 AARP 2012 YEAR IN REVIEW
Summitt achieved 1,098 wins—more
college basketball victories than
any other coach, male or female.
She retired in April to face a new
opponent. For raising awareness of
Alzheimer’s disease, Pat Summitt
received AARP’s highest honorthe
Andrus Award—in December.
AARP EXPERIENCE CORPS®
What happens when an adult
mentor and a child come together?
Magic.
When young children learn to read,
they gain confidence, self-esteem
and a far greater likelihood of
success as they mature.
Some 20,000 young children learned
to read better in 2012, thanks to
the experience and talent of 1,700
dedicated AARP Experience Corps
mentors in 19 cities.
Their magical stories were told in
a video produced by The Eisner
Foundation, which awarded its
second annual Eisner Prize for
Intergenerational Excellence to
AARP Experience Corps/AARP
Experience Corps Bay Area.
AARP Experience Corps received the 2012
Eisner Prize for Intergenerational Excellence.
