3 AARP 2012 YEAR IN REVIEW
and Medicare. This event was part
of AARP’s extensive You’ve Earned
a Say initiative, whose recurring
theme is protecting vital health
and financial security programs,
especially for future generations.
As always, AARP listened carefully
to members’ wants, needs and
opinions. Members of the all-
volunteer AARP National Policy
Council piled into a van to assess
rural transportation needs in South
Dakota. A California woman said
she appreciated calling the AARP
switchboard and talking with a
Spanish-speaking representative.
An outpouring of appreciation
greeted our efforts to honor
veterans, troops and their families in
November by donating 10 percent
of new members’ dues to the USO
to help its Warrior and Family Care
Program.
It’s all part of AARP’s social mission:
enhancing the quality of life for
all as we age and delivering value
through advocacy, information
and service. All of us on the AARP
Board of Directors are humbled and
inspired by the people we serve,
the stories we hear, and the families
we care about. In the words of Dr.
Andrus: What we do, we do for all.
AARP launched
a social network jobs
program for people
with 20+ years of
experience.
