EnvironmentalMatters
OuroperationsaresubjecttoU.S.andforeignlawsandregulationsrelatingtotheprotectionoftheenvironment,includingthosegoverningdischargesof
pollutantsintotheairandwater,themanagementanddisposalofhazardoussubstancesandwastesandthecleanupofcontaminatedsites.Someofouroperations
requireenvironmentalpermitsandcontrolstopreventandreduceairandwaterpollution,andthesepermitsaresubjecttomodification,renewalandrevocationby
issuingauthorities.
Wehaveestablishedenvironmentalmanagementsystemsandcontinuallyupdateenvironmentalpoliciesandstandardoperatingproceduresforouroperations
worldwide.Webelievethatouroperationsareinmaterialcompliancewithapplicableenvironmentallaws,regulationsandpermits.Webudgetforoperatingand
capitalcostsonanongoingbasistocomplywithenvironmentallaws.Ifadditionalormorestringentrequirementsareimposedonusinthefuture,wecouldincur
additionaloperatingcostsandcapitalexpenditures.
Someenvironmentallaws,suchastheComprehensiveEnvironmentalResponseCompensationandLiabilityActof1980(asamended,the"Superfund"law)
anditsstateequivalents,canimposeliabilityforthecostofcleanupofcontaminatedsitesuponanyofthecurrentorformersiteownersoroperatorsoruponparties
whosentwastetothesesites,regardlessofwhethertheowneroroperatorownedthesiteatthetimeofthereleaseofhazardoussubstancesorthelawfulnessofthe
originaldisposalactivity.Wehavebeenidentifiedasapotentiallyresponsiblepartyatseveralsites.Ateachofthesesites,wehaveanassignedportionofthe
financialliabilitybasedonthetypeandamountofhazardoussubstancesdisposedofbyeachpartyatthesiteandthenumberoffinanciallyviableparties.Wehave
fulfilledourresponsibilitiesatsomeofthesesitesandremaininvolvedinonlyafewatthistime.
Whileourultimatecostsinconnectionwiththesesitesisdifficulttopredictwithcompleteaccuracy,basedoncurrentestimatesofcleanupcostsandour
expectedallocationofthesecosts,wedonotexpectcostsinconnectionwiththesesitestobematerial.
Wemaybesubjecttovariousstate,federalandinternationallawsandregulationsgoverningtheenvironment,includingthoserestrictingthepresenceof
certainsubstancesinelectronicproducts.Forexample,theEuropeanUnion("EU")enactedtheRestrictionoftheUseofCertainHazardousSubstancesinElectrical
andElectronicEquipment,whichprohibitstheuseofcertainsubstances,includinglead,incertainproducts,includingdiskdrives,putonthemarketafterJuly1,
2006.Similarlegislationhasbeenormaybeenactedinotherjurisdictions,includingintheUnitedStates,Canada,Mexico,Taiwan,China,Japanandothers.The
EuropeanUnionREACHDirective(Registration,Evaluation,Authorization,andRestrictionofChemicals,EC1907/2006)alsorestrictssubstancesofveryhigh
concern("SVHCs")inproducts.

AtJuly1,2016,weemployedapproximately45,500employeesandtemporaryemployeesworldwide,ofwhichapproximately36,100werelocatedinour
Asianoperations.Webelievethatourfuturesuccesswilldependinpartonourabilitytoattractandretainqualifiedemployeesatalllevels.Webelievethatour
employeerelationsaregood.
