controlled trial, we found that people who are
assigned to attend meetings and to use eTools lose
50% more weight on average than those who just
attend meetings. This result confi rms our belief that
the combination of group support offered in our
meetings with the right products enables members to
achieve even greater weight loss success.
Looking ahead, we anticipate Monthly Pass
will continue to be a revenue driver for Weight
Watchers. Following its successes in North
America, we launched Monthly Pass in our U.K.,
German and Australian markets during 2007.
Member response has been positive and we look
forward to rolling out the commitment plan in
additional markets during 2008.
Our efforts to continually improve the Weight
Watchers experience and boost retention include
behind-the-scenes initiatives not directly seen by
members. In 2007, all of our major market fi eld
operations introduced a retention score tool, which
measures the successfulness of each meeting room
experience. As a result of this measurement system,
we have already made progress in strengthening
eld management teams, assigning more meetings
to our stronger leaders, and identifying new ways to
give our members the best possible experience at
Weight Watchers.
Another focus in 2007 was increasing the relevance
of Weight Watchers in the minds of consumers and
putting those building blocks into place. Program
innovations keep our offerings fresh and give former
Weight Watchers members a reason to come back
sooner while strengthening our appeal among
consumers who have never been members. In
December 2007, we launched the fi rst signifi cant new
program innovation in Continental Europe in over three
years built on new concepts and, in January 2008,
we launched the Kick Start program enhancement
throughout North America, which focuses on the
importance of getting a good start at the beginning of
a weight loss effort.
