completionandproductionservicesincludeusingwireline

mentscanalsoberuninproducingwellstoperformproduc-
tionlogging.BakerAtlas(andBakerOilTools)alsoprovide
perforatingservices,whichinvolvepuncturingawell’ssteel
casingandcementsheathwithexplosivecharges.Thiscreates
afractureintheformationandprovidesapathforhydrocar-
bonsintheformationtoenterthewellboreandbeproduced.
BakerAtlas’servicesallowoilandnaturalgascompanies
todefine,manageandreducetheirexplorationandproduc-
tionrisk.Assuch,themaindriverofcustomerpurchasing
decisionsisthevalueaddedbyformationevaluationandwire-

BakerHughesDrillingFluids
BakerHughesDrillingFluidsisamajorproviderofdrilling
fluids(alsocalled“mud”),andaproviderofcompletionfluids
(alsocalled“brines”)andfluidsenvironmentalservices.Drilling
fluidsareanimportantcomponentofthedrillingprocessand
arepumpedfromthesurfacethroughthedrillstring,exiting
nozzlesinthedrillbitandtravelingbackupthewellbore
wherethefluidsarerecycled.Thisprocesscleansthebottom
ofthewellbytransportingthecuttingstothesurfacewhile
alsocoolingandlubricatingthebitanddrillstring.Drillingflu-
idstypicallycontainbariteorbentonitetogivethemweight
thatenablesthefluidtoholdthewellboreopenandstabilize
it.Additionally,thefluidscontroldownholepressuresandseal
poroussectionsofthewellbore.Toensuremaximumefficiency
andwellborestability,drillingfluidsareoftencustomizedby
thewellsiteengineer.Fordrillingthroughthereservoiritself,
BakerHughesDrillingFluids’drill-inorcompletionfluidspos-
sesspropertiesthatminimizeformationdamage.Thefluids
environmentalservicesofBakerHughesDrillingFluidsalso
provideequipmentandservicestoseparatethedrillcuttings
fromthedrillingfluidsandre-injecttheprocessedcuttingsinto
aspeciallypreparedwell,ortotransportanddisposeofthe
cuttingsbyothermeans.

BakerOilToolsisaleadingproviderofdownholecomple-
tion,workoverandfishingequipmentandservices.
Completions.Theeconomicsuccessofawelldependsin
largepartonhowthewelliscompleted.Completionsarethe
equipmentinstalledinawellafteritisdrilledtoallowtheeffi-
cientandsafeproductionofoilandnaturalgastothesurface.
BakerOilTools’completionsystemsarematchedtotheforma-
tionandreservoirforoptimumproductionandcanemploya
varietyofproductsandservicesincluding:
• Linerhangers,whichsuspendasectionofsteelcasing
(alsocalledaliner)insidethebottomoftheprevioussec-
tionofcasing.Itsexpandableslipsgriptheinsideofthe
casingandsupporttheweightofthelinerbelow.
• Packers,whichsealtheannularspacebetweenthesteelpro-
ductiontubingandthecasing.Thesetoolscontroltheflow
offluidsinthewellandprotectthecasingaboveandbelow
fromreservoirpressuresandcorrosiveformationfluids.
• Flowcontrolequipment,whichcontrolsandadjuststhe
flowofdownholefluids.Typicalflowcontroldevices
includeslidingsleeves,whichcanbeopenedorclosed
toalloworlimitproductionfromaparticularportionof
areservoir.Flowcontrolcanbeaccomplishedfromthe
surfaceviawirelineordownholeviahydraulicorelectric
motor-basedautomatedsystems.
• Subsurfacesafetyvalves,whichshutoffallflowoffluids
tothesurfaceintheeventofanemergency,thussaving
thewellandpreventingpollutionoftheenvironment.
Thesevalvesarerequiredinsubstantiallyalloffshorewells.
• Sandcontrolequipment,whichincludesgravelpacktools,
sandscreensandfracturingfluids.Thesetoolsandrelatedser-
vicesareusedinlooselyconsolidatedformationstoprevent
theproductionofformationsandwiththehydrocarbons.
• Advancedcompletiontechnologies,whichincludemultilat-
eralsystems,intelligentwellsystemsandexpandablemetal
technologies.Multilateralcompletionsystemsenabletwo
ormorezonestobeproducedfromasinglewell,using
multiplehorizontalbranches.IntelligentCompletions®use
real-time,remotelyoperateddownholesystemstocontrol
theflowofhydrocarbonsfromoneormorezones.Expand-
ablemetaltechnologyinvolvesthepermanentdownhole
expansionofavarietyoftubularproductsusedindrilling,
completionandwellremediationapplications.
